Putting Your Kids First

Wasn’t it just June and the kids were getting out of school? Oh boy…sure has gone fast this year. I think this is the first year that I really feel the summer has blurrrrred by me. I am not sure why. Perhaps last year the massive amounts of middle school homework was too overpowering? I really needed this summer break. I imagine the kids did, too!

The thought of waking up early, getting dressed and out, packing lunches and doing homework just does not thrill me.

I just love the leisureness (is that a word!?!?) of summer. The pool, the vacations, sleeping in (my fav!!!), vegging around the house, eating whenever we feel like it, no schedules, no rushing, taking fun classes, relaxing, watching movies, going through the house; getting rid of a lot of stuff (I LOVED THAT!!), friends, staying up late….oh I could have a laundry list here!

But, alas, here we are, late August and the routine will soon begin again.

All I can say is…I can’t wait for all of the fall and winter vacations and days off, which are right around the corner to come. Whew!

Today one of the posters asked us if we blog. So,  in honor of her, I decided to post this for the onlookers of my web site and blog.

For those who have no clue what I am talking about…let me explain. GF means Gluten free (as described on my web site) and CF means Casein free (Which is dairy/milk protein)..also discussed on my web site. By being free of these foods, people can live symptom free from Celiac’s, get relief from some allergies and it helps tremendously with people on the autistic spectrum.

I have a four page packet that I pass out to those who ask for it. It informs the individual how to incorporate a GFCF way of eating into your life. In this day and age, we are so lucky to have stores full of GFCF foods. There are recipe books and tons of web sites and Internet connections to help, as well as an abundance of knowledge.

My son has been GFCF for almost four years now. He’s done great and it is my passion to help others who need to change their way of eating. I even provide free tours of the local Whole Foods Market.

Many people ask me, if I eat GFCF, too. No, I do not always. But, yes, I do sometimes.   I am very careful to keep my son’s foods separate. In fact, he has his own freezer, only GFCF foods are allowed in there. He has his own bagel cutter and his own toaster. A few weeks ago we went out to lunch at PF Chang’s and we all ordered from the GF menu (making sure everything was CF, too) .

If you do not get a newspaper, look online. Many places will be having 1 cent sales and 5 and 10 cent sales for items your children be needing. Staples recently had a great sale. We got 8 pencils for 1 cent. Folders for 1 cent, pencil boxes for 1 cent and pencil sharpeners for 1 cent. Your kids can buy them too, so you can purchase the customer max, per person.
