Since this is another one of my passions, I will include some helpful information here for those looking for services to assist a family member with special needs. There is also a lot of info for other services and resources, as well.
Many cities now have a new social services information number available to them 24/7. All you have to do is dial 211. For more information go to http://www.211.org/ When you call you will be connected to an operator who has an abundance of information on many related subjects such as: Support for Children, Youth and Families, Support for Older Americans and Persons with Disabilities, Physical and Mental Health Resources, medical information lines, crisis intervention services, support groups, counseling, drug and alcohol intervention, rehabilitation, health insurance programs, Medicaid and Medicare, maternal health, children’s health insurance programs and much more.
The service is free to call. Check it out!
I don’t want to face it….but the summer is passing by quickly! We just had the fireworks and picnics and the heat is on. There is still a lot of time for fun and games. So….I will continue to provide some more helpful summer tidbits for you to enjoy with your kids.
When it is hot, we think of water. Make sure you drink plenty of it. (It is a lot better for you and healthier than soda or juices.) To keep cool go hang out in the water. Look for local pools, friend’s pools (drop hints), lakes, rivers, and oceans are awaiting your visit. Heck, you can even turn on the sprinklers and have the kids run through it on your lawn. Make a slip and slide from an old shower curtain and have them splash around, with supervision, of course. Lather on that sunscreen again and again to prevent awful burns.
Think of cool indoor places to hang out in: Shopping malls, ice or rollar skating rinks, gyms, recreation sites, indoor play areas, bookstores, libraries, movies…use your imagination. Look for coupons for the places that charge a fee. Check out www.hotcoupons.com to find coupons in your area or an area that you will visit. Remember your Entertainment book, too. It is loaded with coupons and deals that we all forget we have. Keep it in your car’s glove compartment, so you always have it, while on the go.
